The Louisville and Nashville Railroad chose a noted architect, Henry Richardson, to build a railroad station that would symbolize Nashville's entrance into the prosperity of the 1900's. Romanesque in style, it opened for business on October 9, 1900. The clock tower was especially unique as it originally had a mechanical "digital style" clock installed. During World War I however the clock was changed out to a standard analog mechanical style as certain parts needed from France were unavailable during the war.
