After the Civil War Nashville became a major river town with cotton and other mercantile goods being sold. This image of Ryman's Landing, what is now Riverfront Park, shows a line of steamboats along the riverbank. Chances are some, if not all, of these boats are part of the Ryman Steamboat Company (known as the Ryman Line). Captain Thomas Ryman made his fortune in the steamboat business and his main cargo was whiskey, what is likely in the wooden barrels aboard some of the ships in this image.
